Getting to the Desktop
Often times while trying to help a client I will say “click on your desktop” or “go to the desktop” and they have no idea what that means or how to do it. There are a couple of ways to get to the desktop. One quick and easy way is to click on the finder icon on your dock. The little happy face icon is the finder. That will open a window that gives you access to everything on your computer. Another way to access the desktop is to just click on it. Let’s say, for example, that you have the application iTunes open. You’ll notice that the menu bar at the top has changed from Finder to iTunes. To get back to the desktop you can just click on it anywhere that you can see it, and now you are on the desktop or in the finder. Notice that the menu bar has changed back to Finder.
