Burn a CD or DVD
The basics of burning a CD or a DVD. The first thing that you will need is a blank burnable CD or DVD. One thing to know is that Cds and DVDs come in 2 choices, one time use and the rewriteable kind, in which you can write and rewrite to the disk as many times as you’d like. If you do not intend to modify the files on your cd then a regular, one time use cd is just fine and they are also cheaper that a rewriteable cd. Let’s say I want to back up my entire FreeMacLessons folder. The first thing I’m going to do is find out how big that folder is. That this folder is 3.91 GB. So for a folder that big I will need a DVD, since DVDs have 4.7 GB of space and CDs only have 700 MB. Insert the DVD and you will get a prompt. Keep it on Open Finder and click OK. Now I have an Untitled DVD icon on my desktop. So I will take whatever files I want to copy, in this case my freemaclessons folder and drag it to the DVD icon. Now if I open the icon, I will see that it links to my folder. Now I am ready to burn the dvd, to do that I can either click this button here, or drag the DVD icon to the trash. A new window pops up and I am going to title it and put the date. I’ll keep the speed set at maximum and click burn. Burning can take a few minutes. When it’s done the DVD icon will appear on my desktop with the name FreeMacLessons and all the files will now be on that DVD!
