My parents, both of whom are retired, are Mac users and
have been for about 6 or 7 years now. When I first encouraged them to switch
from PC to Mac they were hesitant. They were both concerned about learning
something new, and for good reason considering their computer skills were
basic to say the least.
When they finally did make the switch, I encouraged them to take the
free classes offered at the Apple Store (which is only a mile and
a half from
their house) to give them a basic understanding of the Mac. They never
went! Instead, they would call me with their questions.
After a while, and many phone calls later, I realized a few things.
First off, my parents kept asking the same questions over
and over. Secondly,
they still didn’t have a grasp of the basics of their
computer. A typical phone call to me would include something
Me: Click on the desktop.
Mom: What’s the desktop?
At that point I realized that my parents really needed help understanding
their computer. I knew they needed something that was easily
accessible, simple to understand and something they could refer to
times as needed. And this is how FreeMacLessons.com was born!
